With COVID-19 closing down most summer markets, Rachel Jackson, the director of Bellingham Handmade, is determined to create a virtual space for local makers.
“The real ambition for us as an organization is to offer direct platforms of sales from artisans to the consumer,” Jackson says.
Bellingham Handmade is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a new eCommerce website that will operate like an Etsy but specifically for Bellingham makers.
The goal of the digital platform is multifold. It aims to centralize Bellingham crafters, help new makers connect with a larger audience, streamline the digital shopping process for consumers, and help local businesses weather the pandemic.
Hoping to include more than just traditional crafters like jewelry makers and visual artists, Jackson hopes other business owners, like personal trainers and beauticians, will take part in the website, too.
The Kickstarter campaign runs until July 2 and hopes to raise $3,000. Learn more about Bellingham Handmade or donate here.
